Fantastic team effort gets 4th XI off to a flyer!
The 4th XI’s season got off to a flyer with an impressive win at home to Hatch End II's. After losing the toss, Reed were asked to bat as the clouds started to gather over Freman College. Peter Baker looked in great form for his 44 and was well supported by fellow opener Bill Mansfield (14). Two quick wickets brought young debutant George Adam and Zac Conley to the crease. Conley began hitting freely to the boundary from the offset. Whist, Adam (14) played a mature supportive role as the two went about stabilising the innings. After Conley (33) departed, this brought the skipper Lloyd Bowman (27) to the crease, and he carried on from Conley by playing several shots to the boundary before being bowled by (Singh 7-1-25-4) . There were also useful contributions down the order from Ollie Mansfield (9) Joe Graves (8) Ian Roberts (9) before Reed finished their 45 overs on 204-9. Reed’s reply got off to a dream start when opener Joe Graves took two wickets in his first over. He continued to bowl a consistent line throughout his spell and ended up with impressive figures of (6-4-4-3). At the other end, Matt Yates troubled the batsman throughout and was rewarded with two wickets following two catches by Rhodri Hughes. Another wicket fell after a mix up between the batsmen before; the ever dependable Ian Roberts tore through Hatch End’s middle order (4.2-2-8-3). He was also well supported by the returning Neill Haslam (5-3-9-1) who was unlucky to get just the one wicket as Hatch End were bowled out for 49. A fantastic start to the season from the 4th XI , everybody involved can be pleased with their performance [...]
