Honorary Secretary’s Report, 2015.

Honorary Secretary’s Report, 2015. At the 2014 AGM, Michael “Baz” Curtis did not seek re-election as Honorary Secretary and I replaced him. Keith Collins, after 40+ years on the committee, and Stuart Smith also stood-down whilst Rob Willoughby, Jack Tidey and Sean Tidey filled the vacancies. In April Tom Greaves resigned as Coach Coordinator and subsequently Richard Barlow was co-opted onto the General Committee in that role. Life Member and former President, Howard Marshall, decided to stand-down from the Committee in May. Howard is irreplaceable! Your General Committee met 11 times during the year with an average attendance rate touching 83% per meeting at the time of writing this report. There were several pieces of significant business completed during the year. Reed Parish Council wished to formalize our 60-year association. Negotiated by Club Chairman, John Heslam, a 10-year agreement with a 5-year notice to quit clause that protects both the Parish Council and the Club was signed-off. Similarly, a new agreement based on the same lines was made with the Freman College management. RCC pay nothing to the school but in return the playing area is maintained to top class standards with Richard Robertson overseeing the preparation of pitches for school matches in addition to the ones our 3rd and 4th XIs use at weekends. We are indebted to JQH for seeing through these vital safeguards to our future. Thank you John. Parts of the Club Constitution were thought to be out of date, lacking certain important content and in no particular order. It has been reviewed and the proposed new Constitution will be brought to the AGM this November for members to vote on. Because of dwindling numbers, we were proactive in trying to [...]

Captains’ Reviews of the season, 2015

1st XI REPORT 2015 The 1XI had a mixed 2015 season with some performances equal to or better than the standard set over recent seasons and some more disappointing. However, in a Championship significantly strengthened from the previous year and with some serious injuries to key players it remained a good season which hopefully sets a platform which along with a bit of luck can hopefully allow for another go at promotion to the Premier league in the future. Key performers with the bat were myself, Chris Jackson and William Heslam, the latter despite only playing half the season. However, typically many others chipped in too with the likes of Stuart Smith, Tom Greaves, new signing Rich Wharton, Alex Mutucamarana, Sean Tidey, Mitchell Cooper, Jack Tidey and overseas player Phil Lill all showing their ability with the bat at this level. The signing of Matt Sampson with 2 games to go is also very encouraging looking ahead as is the classy innings Rob Lankester produced in the final game of the season underlying his promise in his first opportunity to bat in 1XI league cricket. And hopefully if work allows the talented Rich Wharton can thrive with a regular spot in the future top order. With the ball Jack Tidey was outstanding. He consistently took key wickets at the top of the order which was crucial with the strength of the batting being particularly high in the Championship last season and his presence was sorely missed when injured. Phil Lill was also excellent more than filling the role required coming into the side for the season ending up leading wicket taker and top of the averages. Tom Greaves yet again bowled some crucial long spells [...]

Colts’ Managers’ Reports, 2015

Reed Cricket Club U11 Report Pre season the U11’s team started with 5 registered players and we were unsure if we could get a team to fulfill the fixtures, but by hook or crook we managed to get sign on 8 more new players, some new to cricket and some much more experienced. In the first match we only had 7 players and being 10 a side pairs we, not surprisingly, lost heavily. The addition of a couple of new players; Sam Osborne and Charlie Walters made a big improvement this year and the league season ended with 5 wins and 5 defeats. Our team was the youngest team in the league and the only matches we lost were against teams who were a lot older. On the batting side; Sam Osborne scored 66 runs, only being out once in nine matches. Ross Gardner was the second highest run scorer with 57 runs in nine matches. On the bowling side; Sam Osborne and Adam Gardner both took 10 wickets closely followed by Charlie Walters who took 9, including 2 wickets from the last two balls of the match to beat Foxton. Sam Osborne and Ross Gardner have both played Area cricket for North Herts this year and have both been pre-selected for 2016. Hopefully they will be joined by Adam Gardner and Charlie Walters who will be taking part in the North Area trials in November. All in all, this season has turned out much better than we could have hoped. Where we lacked in numbers we certainly made up for in quality, as we had a nucleus of some very good players being backed up by some enthusiastic newcomers which bodes well for the [...]

The ECB National Cricket Playing Survey 2015

The National Cricket Playing Survey 2015 offers players from the age of 14 upwards the chance to have their say and influence the future of cricket at grassroots level. More than 50,000 current and former players from England and Wales have responded to the survey over the past years. ECB, County Cricket Boards, Leagues and Clubs continue to act on your feedback, introducing new formats, different start times, new rules, shorter travel distances to matches and greater opportunities for disabled cricketers, South Asian and British Asian players, women and young players to play the game. It will take less time than a cricket tea to tell us who you play for, what you love about the game and how best we can improve your experience of our sport. By completing the survey you will have the chance to be entered into a prize draw to win prizes including include signed merchandise and pairs of tickets to Investec Ashes Tests and Royal London England v Australia ODIs. Go to ecb.co.uk/survey Circulated on behalf of the ECB and Herts County Cricket Association.
