For Reed it proved a good victory in their first home Sunday game of the season. Hosting, for the first time in several seasons, Hare Street and Hormead always promised to be a lively and entertaining encounter as several players in their side play for Reed on Saturdays. The competitive but friendly nature of the game made for an enjoyable game and the perfect way to kick of Sundays at The Green. Hosting skipper Marcus J.E. Baker won the toss and decided to bat first. He was soon at the crease after the fall of an early wicket. Karl Ward and Baker performed well in putting the bad balls away and keeping the good ones out. They ran well between the wickets and each brought up their half centuries by drinks, having put on 111 together. The interval although brief was enough to break Ward’s concentration as he was caught in the twenty first over for 60. Coming in at number 4 was 16 year old Jack Caine who had the added pressure of playing against his brother, a pressure which he dealt with great maturity. Instead of falling into the trap of trying to hit out he maintained his composure and played himself in before scoring freely with some superb shot selection. Meanwhile, Baker continued at the same tempo and never really looked in too much trouble and reached three figures with a well played pull shot. Baker then retired with still eight overs left to be faced. Will Heslam made a brief cameo of 22 before Peter G. Baker supported Caine as the talented youngster reached 50.
