A fantastic team performance saw Reed achieve another victory in the North Herts League on the first Sunday of July when they hosted Welwyn Garden City. Stand in captain Marcus J.E. Baker won the toss and elected to bat first.His decision proved a good one as opening pair Matt Bowles and Rhodri Hughes partnered together to make 83. Although patient and cautious the solid platform gave something for Reed to work with. Hughes was caught for 15 and Bowles soon followed him for a superb 58, all the better considering this was only his second innings back from a major career threatening injury. Ray Kingshott then played an important innings as Reed went through a slump during the 20-30 overs period. The hosts limped to 97 for 5. What followed was what can only be described as one of the great heavy hitting assaults seen at The Green. Sean Tidey only batted for 12 overs and faced a paltry 42 balls. But in that time he amassed an astonishing 112 not out. His knock came from 36 scoring shots and included eleven fours and seven sixes. Thanks to Tidey and a brief cameo at the end from Baker (12*) Reed posted the score of 235 for 7.The beautiful weather had brought out a substantial crowd to watch the game and after the interval Reed went about the task of taking ten wickets. Despite Tideys heroics with the bat, Reed had only posted what should have been a par score and with Welwyns opening pair looking proficient it was still going to be a battle.
