Now that the ECB and the UK Government has given the green light for recreational cricket in England to return from this Saturday 11 July, the Reed CC General Committee and Playing Sub-Committee have begun discussions on the measures we need to take to get cricket back on ‘The Green’.

We are working very hard to ensure that the club is a safe environment for all those players, officials and loyal supporters to enjoy for the remainder of the 2020 season.

The length of the pandemic and the uncertainty about when things will go back to ‘normal’ makes it absolutely vital that we as a club, and a cricket community, give these new safety measures the utmost respect so that we do not lose any more cricket. So please, start as you mean to go on and adhere to the following rules when playing cricket or using the clubhouse. If it becomes evident that these rules are being broken, we will have no choice but to cancel games and close the clubhouse.
Please remember that social distancing and hand hygiene are of the utmost importance and that at the end of the day we are just trying to keep everyone safe.

PRE-GAME
1. If you, or anyone in your household, are showing any symptoms of COVID-19 – YOU MUST NOT turn up for the match. Let your captain know. We will be carrying out checks prior to each game to ensure safety of all players and officials.
2. Please come all ready dressed in your kit no earlier than 1 hour before the start time.
3. All Reed players and supporters should park on the football pitch.
4. The car park behind the clubhouse is for use for Umpires, away teams, away supporters and officials only.
5. The nominated captain on the day must adhere to the opening up ‘checklist’ before any play begins. These will be provided by the club.
6. THE CHANGING ROOMS ARE OUT OF ACTION and you will not be able to leave anything in the changing-rooms.
7. YOU SHOULD, WHERE POSSIBLE, GET CHANGED IN YOUR CAR.
8. THE HOME CHANGING ROOM SHOULD ONLY BE USED IF ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY AND STRICTLY ONE PERSON AT A TIME. We would suggest you leave any bags in your car where possible. You MUST get permission from a club official to use it and are responsible for cleansing the area afterwards.
9. We will be providing a marquee for away players to use during play.
10. The Reed captain on the day will provide the opposition with the option of storing valuables in a clear container, which can be locked in the safe behind the bar. Only the Reed captain can access this.
11. There will be NO access to any part of the clubhouse except for authorised Bar Servers or people using toilets.
12. Please prepare any personal equipment whilst maintaining social distancing. You will have to shower at home after the game.
13. Where possible players should limit sharing of equipment. If you do, you must practise strict hand hygiene before and after use and the equipment must be cleaned before use by another person.
14. Please bring your own hand-sanitiser where possible so you can maintain strict and frequent hand hygiene measures at all times. There will also be various sanitisation points around the club.
15. Please make sure you bring your own tea and plenty to drink during the game as neither teas or drinks will be provided. We encourage you to bring your own labelled water bottle(s) to restrict the chances of cross contamination.
16. You will not be able to access the Kitchen to fill your water bottle – the outside tap next to the clubhouse is drinking water. A sanitisation point is located next to it.

AWAY GAMES

1. Players, officials and supporters of Reed CC MUST respect and adhere to all rules in place at opposition grounds.
2. Travel to games should follow latest government guidance – found here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-safer-travel-guidance-for-passengers – we would strongly urge only travelling with those in your household. If you need to share vehicles with those outside your household, follow the advice in the link above. This includes limiting passengers in each vehicle, wearing face coverings, increasing ventilation, sitting as far apart as is possible and cleaning the vehicle before and after use.

THE GAME
1. The captain will remind the players at the start of each game of the rules regarding social distancing and sanitising.
2. No sweat or saliva is to be applied to the ball at any time.
3. All participants should sanitise their hands prior to the start of the game and carry a hand sanitiser with them in the field.
4. Hand sanitiser should be used at all breaks in activity and prior to consuming any food or drinks.
5. Players should refrain from spitting or rinsing out their mouths.
6. Players should adhere to UK Government social distancing guidance at all times (including throughout warm-ups) except in the following limited circumstances during competitive play, where 1m+ is permitted: (1) wicket keepers standing up to the stumps and (2) distance between slip fielders.
7. A ‘hygiene break’ will take place every six overs or every 20 minutes, whichever is sooner, in which the ball is cleaned with an anti-bacterial wipe (conforming to BS EN 14476) and all participants’ hands are cleaned using a suitable sanitiser. This routine should also be followed at the start of any drinks break or the close of an innings. The responsibility for sanitising the ball during the match will lie with the fielding captain, not the umpire.
8. Batters to sanitise their bat when leaving the field of play and Wicket Keepers should sanitise their gloves.
9. Bowlers should not hand any personal items to the umpire. Bowlers should place these items at the boundary themselves.
10. Batters are to run in distinct running lines to ensure they are not within 2m of the bowler or other batter.
11. Minimise sharing of the ball in a match by limiting contact as the ball makes its way back to the bowler e.g. ball goes straight from wicketkeeper to bowler instead of around surrounding fielders.
12. Social distancing must always be maintained including during post-wicket celebrations, drinks breaks and tactical discussions.
13. Umpires should refrain from any contact with the ball, it can be returned to the base of the stumps at breaks and wickets.
14. Umpires should be responsible for the stumps closest to them and should be the only person replacing the bails if dislodged.
15. If two scorers are required, social distancing must be maintained with only one official inside the scorers’ box and no players to be allowed in the scorers’ box. There will two marked boxes on the veranda for scorers, no access to this area except for scorers.
16. Communal scorebooks passed from one player to another should be avoided. The club will make medical grade gloves available to anyone required to score.
17. In line with current UK Government guidance, we will not be preparing food for participants. Individuals should bring their own food and drink for ‘teas’. Water bottles or other refreshment containers should not be shared. You should clearly label all food and drink containers to avoid risk of cross contamination.
18. Spectators should remain socially distanced at all times and refrain from all contact with the ball e.g. returning it to the field of play.
19. Spectator groups must be restricted to discrete six person gathering limits and spread out, in line with wider UK Government guidance.
20. During play, spectators should refrain from entering the designated ‘players area’ which covers the area from the nets/marquee to the sightscreen, except for accessing the toilet.
21. THE NETS ARE OUT OF BOUNDS FOR NON-PLAYERS ON SATURDAY’S FROM 10.30AM UNTIL CLOSE (commencing 18/07/20).
