The rain wasn’t quite the winner despite 25 matches in the Herts League programme of 133 fixtures being cancelled and a further 13 rain-affected. This is not to mention the 5 matches conceded.
In the Championship in the last of the first series of Limited Overs Matches, Reed 1st XI scored 180 for 8, (Rob Lankester 60, Ed Wharton 42), then bowled out Flitwick for 130, Sean Tidey taking 3 wickets and Ed Wharton and Zac McGuigan 2 each. Next week will see the first of the “Timed matches” – that means white clothing and red-balls!
The Seconds, (they play in whites and use red balls anyway), scored 248 for 5 thanks to Ed Garrott’s 50, James Sandford’s 42 and the quick-fire 56 by Mitchell Cooper. Wickets were shared around as Stevenage made 212 for 8 in response leaving Reed joint second in Division 4B.
The unprotected pitch at Freman College gave no alternative but to cancel the Third Team match against Holtwhites Trinibis because of the rain.
COLTS:
On Monday the Under 9 (2) side scored 197 (Net) against a strong Bishop’s Stortford team that made 265 (Net).
Tuesday’s U13 match at home to Saffron Walden was cancelled because of the rain. Then against Mildenhall away on Thursday Reed’s U13s scored 112 for 6 with Sam Osborne compulsory retiring on 30 and Charlie Butler hitting 24 but to no avail as Mildenhall knocked off 114 for 5. Sam took 2 wickets and Charlie 1 but Alfie Cockburn also took 1 wicket and made 1 run out. William Archer held a catch too.
On Friday evening, the Under 11s were over the Essex border at Wenden. Nigel Cook reports that Reed fielded first and bowled tidily, led by Eddie Cook and Tom Green with economical spells of 0-16 and 0-10. Fin Collery got a wicket with his very first ball. Wenden closed their innings on 281 (Net). The Reed reply was slow leaving 36 runs from the last 3 overs, a great effort and good running from Vincent and Hill created an exciting finish but Reed came up short, finishing on 265 (Net).
