Here we are at the half-way point of the Herts League programme.
The 1st XI are in 3rd position in the Championship some way off the leaders. The 2nd XI are also in 3rd place in Division 4B. In Division 8A, the 3rd XI reside in 7th and the 4th XI are 6th in Regional Division B East. All the Divisional Tables and Results are viewable on www.hertsleague.co.uk
Saturday:
Matt Sampson made fifty and Ed Wharton took 3 wickets but the Firsts lost by 5 wickets away at Chorleywood having recovered to 160 all out.
In a rain-affected match at Reed, Harpenden scored 267 for 7, George Garrott grabbing 3 of the wickets to fall but in their shortened innings, the hosts ended on 177 for 4, Marcus Martin and Richard Barlow reaching the forties and Phil Frenay 38.
At the Freman Oval, Rob Willoughby blasted 75, Mike Robertson 51 and a more sedately 44 not out by Peter Baker enabled Reed’s Thirds to close on 253 all-out. In response, Old Elizabethans lost just 4 wickets, three of them to Ian Roberts, as they cantered to victory.
The 4th XI were away at Harpenden and held-out for a draw at 140 for 5 chasing 202 for 3. Neil Haslam had taken 3 wickets and most of Reed’s runs came from John Kershaw, 41 n.o., and Paul Garrott, 30.
There was a high-scoring match against Hertford on Sunday. Skipper Rob Lankester retired after notching-up another ton and Tom Walsingham (56) and Joe Graves (44 n.o.) boosted the Reed total to 290 for 5. Hertford responded with a 200+ opening partnership before Walsingham (4 wickets) and Lankester (3) bowled Reed to victory by 4 runs as Hertford reached 286 for 8.
