The Firsts are in third position in the Championship. Solid batting from the top order of Will & James Heslam followed by Chris Jackson and Tom Greaves guided them to 187 for 4 which was enough to overhaul Hoddesdon’s 185 for 8. Wickets were shared round between Jack Tidey, Tom Greaves and Phil Lill.

116 all-out was never enough for Chipperfield Clarendon to defend as the Seconds romped home by 5 wickets at Reed to keep them cemented at the top of their Division. Skipper Marcus Martin led the way with 58 not out and the bowling credits went to Alex Kelly who took 6 for 18. Remarkably, the Garrott brothers held 5 catches between them.

I’m afraid there is nothing much to write home about regarding the Third’s visit to Langleybury. The hosts posted 185 for 7. Reed scored 70 in reply; top-scorer was Rob Willoughby with 16. I expect the little dotted lines indicating promotion and relegation zones are likely to appear on the Herts League website soon. The Thirds will be in the latter! There are just 3 matches left to claw back some ground so we wish Mike Robertson and his team all the best of luck to finish the programme strongly. Their next 2 fixtures are at Freman College, so go there and give them all the support you can.

Meanwhile the Fourths have only 2 matches remaining and still are in 1st place in Regional Division C East. It’s anticipated that they will be above the little dotted lines at the end of the season. However, they did lose to second-placed Harpenden on Saturday, but they have only one fixture remaining. Alan Ward took 4 for 33 as Harpenden made 227 for 8, but Reed could muster only 146 for 8 in reply. Opener Paul Garrott hit 42 then Ian Roberts scored 23 in the lower-middle order.

Expect Match Reports to follow shortly.
