The Heslam brothers took the game away from Flitwick. Wickets had been shared around with Jack Tidey taking 3 of them, as the visitors closed on 221 for 8 after 60 overs. But Will Heslam scored another fifty and James, a marvellous undefeated hundred, as they put on a century partnership together helping Reed 1sts win by 9 wickets and climbing into 4th place in the Championship. Opponents next week are 3rd placed Hoddesdon.
Marcus Martin’s gentle and seemingly innocuous slows, (4 for 31), were too much for Luton Town & Indians as they succumbed to 160 for 7. Richard Johnson made sure that the Seconds maintained top spot in Division 5B with an attractive 76 not out in a victory by 4 wickets.
The Thirds battled it out against Division 8A leaders, St Albans, at Freman College. Reed’s innings ended on 175 for 9, Swetank Khambhat top-scoring with 47, and they fought back after tea taking 7 St Albans’ wickets, 3 of them to that man Swetank again! 13 points helped the Thirds gain another rung up the Divisional ladder and are away to close rivals Langleybury next weekend when the match format return to the 50/50 variety.
The Fourths suffered an upset away at Welwyn Garden City. There were 3 wickets each for Hunter Diack and Ollie Mansfield as WGC managed only 186 for 8. But a weakened Fourths were shot-out for only 88 and 31 of these came from the bat of Martin Johnson. The Fourths have 3 matches left in the programme, but still maintain first position in their Division. They are due to play second-placed Harpenden next week.
Regular opponents, Aston, visited The Green on Sunday and posted a total of 185 all-out. There were 3 wickets each for Sam Rice and Phil Lill. Then Lill starred with the bat making a round 100. Ben Moody was 30 not out as Reed won by 7 wickets.
