Reed IV’s welcomed fellow early season pacesetters Welwyn V’s to Freman College.

After winning the toss, skipper Lloyd Bowman opted to bowl and at first and it appeared to be the wrong decision when Welwyn raced to 51-0 from the first 6 overs.

Zac Conley (6-0-23-1) made the breakthrough, before the persistence of Ed Kershaw finally paid off and he got his rewards taking two wickets in quick succession including the wicket of the dangerous opener Skiff for 47, following a magnificent catch in the gully by Bill Mansfield.

By this point Reed had begun to swing the momentum and Neill Haslam (9-0-27-2) and Steve Hughes (7-1-30-2) both bowled well and didn’t allow the batsman to settle as Reed tore through Welwyn’s middle order.

Jonathan Adam (2-0-9-2) took his first wicket in adult cricket , including removing the skipper Molyneux for 31 with his first ball. His second quickly followed after a great catch by Rhodri Hughes in the covers. Toby Emes took the final wicket as Welwyn were bowled out for 149 from 31.5 overs.

In reply Reed chased the total down in 24 overs. Zac Conley (43) and Rhodri Hughes (46*) continued their fine form. Whilst contributions from John Kershaw (15) Bill Mansfield (8) and Lloyd Bowman (5*) ensured Reed IV’s continued their unbeaten run in the league.
