Once again Paul and Marion will cooking their end of season curry. Come and celebrate the end of another successful season. It all starts on the 5th October at 7pm and the curry will be served around 8pm. It is £5 per head. Also, on the 18th of October the league presentation will take place at Wembley. It is only £10 for colts and £20 for adults. If you would like to come and see the 2nd XI collect their championship award, please let your captain know asap.

£1200 raised on President’s Day

Dear All, Following the Charity Lunch that took place at Reed Cricket Club on President’s Day recently, I am pleased to announce that £1200.00 was raised for Parkinson’s UK, and a cheque for that amount will be presented to their representative soon. We were blessed with glorious weather and an entertaining days’ cricket, watched by a large contingent of family and friends, some of whom travelled a considerable distance to attend; many of these people attended the lunch, which was a jolly affair, with wonderful food supplied by Capers Catering. A large array of raffle prizes were on offer, and the generosity of those who supplied them as well as those who purchased tickets, was a major contributor to our eventual total. Reed Cricket Club members and supporters have proved themselves to have big hearts and deep pockets, and I am so proud of, and grateful to, all who made the day a great success! I aim to repeat the event in 2014 and subsequent years, choosing a different Charity each year; I hope and know I will be able to count on your continued support. Thank you, once again. Promotion Disappointment for Reed

Reed 1XI failed to secure promotion to the Home Counties Premier League on the final day of the season as they lost to Langleybury who were fighting for their Herts League Division One survival in a hard fought encounter. Langleybury won the toss and elected to bat first on a wicket that although hard looked like it would offer something to the bowlers. This seemed the case and Mitchell Cooper (1-28) got an impressive early breakthrough caught well by Ed Garrott at slip which alongside a run out by James Heslam got Reed off to a great start with the home side 13-2 after 4 overs. However, some good aggressive batting by Langleybury and slight overpitching in the conditions by the Reed bowlers meant they were able to ride a bit of luck and recover well to 100-2 off just 23 overs. This had set the platform for a decent total meaning that although Tom Greaves bowled another good spell of 19-2-75-4 and Rupert Martin (10-0-34) bowled economically, Langleybury were able through a couple more decent partnerships to set a challenging score for Reed to chase of 218-6. Amin, Soulsby and Will Oxley were the pick of the Langleybury batsman all scoring half centuries. So Reed needed to chase down 218 in 46 overs for promotion. Unfortunately with the pace of Gage added to the Langleybury attack since the reverse fixture earlier in the season and the helpful wicket with the new ball this was always going to be a tough ask for the Reed batsman. Walsingham and P. Baker half centuries

With two heavy downpours stopping play Reed could count themselves very lucky to finish the game let alone win against annual rivals Little Hadham. Reed were even more fortunate considering that they were short on players. Reed never had more than 9 on the field with two players joining part way through the first innings it was only thanks to the generosity of the visitors that some stand –ins were provided as Reed fielded first. A tentative couple of deliveries from Will Kirby made way to an impressive line and length accounting for the first two wickets. Lloyd Bowman too bowled very well and troubled the opposition batsmen, but was unlucky to go wicket less. Reed captain Marcus J.E. Baker and Sean Tidey then replaced Bowman and Kirby after each bowled 8 overs. Tidey looked threatening whilst Baker also looked like he was about to strike which eventually he did. Baker (1), Bowman, and Kirby (2) each went for 35 in their 8 overs whilst Tidey finished 0 for 31 from his 6. Reed had already evacuated the pitch once but the second downpour saw an early tea taken. When play resumed it was decided that 4 overs per innings would be lost. This left Graham Stuart (1for 4) and Rob Lankaster (1 for 9) to send down an over each. Stuart taking his wicket thanks to a catch from Baker and Lankaster’s from Tidey taking his third catch. There were also two run outs from Lankaster and Bowman. Thriplow and Whittlesford

Then on Friday the 21 June Reed Under 11's travelled to Wittlesford to face (Cambridge U11 division F) league leaders Thriplow.Reed's captain Freddie Ancliff won the toss and chose to bat. Thriplow made an excellent start with the best bowling Reed have experienced this year in keeping Reed to 3 wickets for 11 runs after the first 4 pairs. The last pair of Harrison Caldicott-Stevens and Michael Catt saved Reeds innings with Michael Catt scoring 15 runs off 11 balls to leave Reed with a net score of 3 for 231.Thriplow made an excellent start to their innings with their opening 3 pairs making 30 runs for a cost of only 1 wicket. Then the Reed bowlers found their form against the forth pair with Freddie Ancliff (2-7) leading by example and setting the standard for Richard Stuart (1-3), Cormac Hosie (1-4) and Michael Catt (1-14).There was a tense finish to the game with Thriplow needing 4 off the last 3 balls but excellent fielding by Reed kept out the home team with Thriplow finishing their innings with 5 for 228, and a win for Reed. A great week which leaves Reed topping the league with two games to play.

Royston

The week started with Reed Under 11s travelling to Therfield on Monday 17 June to face Royston. Reed were sent in to bat first and with every pair of Reed batters putting an average of net 12 runs on the scoresheet saw Reed finish their innings at 5 for 265.Reed's fielding was tight throughout the Royston innings and through the efforts of the bowlers Cormac Hosie (3-3), Liam Gurney (2-6), Will King (1-2), Brady Henaghan (1-3), Kieran Mckinna (1-4) and Stephen Bishop (1-11) managed to keep Royston to under the 200 starting level to finish their innings at 9 for 198 and a well deserved win for Reed Under 11's.

Royston-7-a-side

Reed Under 13s brought home the first silverware of the summer. They won the Under 13 7-a-side played at Therfield and hosted by Royston.The teams that entered were the Linton Lionesses, Royston Eagles, St Giles Super 7's and Reed Royals.Reed started off by beating Linton in their opening game without losing a wicket. Jag Lalli and Luke Wilkinson set about the bowling attack and Reed scored over 60. This was too much for Linton who fell short of the target.The second game was against the much favoured Cambridge St Giles. Bowling first Reed took all 6 wickets with King bowling sharply taking 2 wickets in 2 balls. Other highlights included Matt Inmans caught and bowled and Brenden Salters sublime one handed catch on the boundary to finish the innings. Cambridge St Giles only scored 43 which King and Pamela Chicken knocked off comfortably.The third game was a dead rubber as both Reed and Royston had qualified for the final . Matt Yates and Robert Steyn opened the batting and looked comfortable once they got their eye in. Unfortunately that game was lost.The final was played as a 12 over per side with King winning the toss and inserting Royston. Reed’s tactical decision to open with Oli Paulus paid dividends when he took 2 wickets in his first over. Despite a rain shower the game resumed and Royston set Reed a total of 68. Reed brought the big guns back and Lalli and Inman knocked the runs off in the 11th over. With one required Royston bowled a bye which finished the game much to Captain Kings delight as he skipped down the wicket like a show pony holding his bat aloft.In all games Reed fielded [...]

Keatley Cup Hopes Fading Fast

Thriplow dealt Reeds Keatley Cup hopes a serious blow on Monday evening and all but finished their chances of retaining the competition. 14 runs separated the teams in an entertaining evening match on Fowlmere village green. Thriplow posted 133-5 in their 16 overs thanks to some lusty blows by Staley who scored all but four of his 28 runs with boundaries. It was the young Richer who top scored though with 37, he was ably supported by Gasiemidis (24) and Jones (19). Whilst Thriplows total included some excellent running between the wickets Reeds midweek captain M.Cooper will be disappointed with some uncharacteristic errors in the field and the conceding of 20 extras by his side.Reeds reply begun with T.Greaves hitting two maximums on his way to 33. His wicket was claimed by Thriplow captain R.Turner who went on to steal the show with figures of 4-14 including a hat-trick! His fourth and final over of his spell started with Reed on 67-2 and finished with them on 67-5. To make matters worse the visitors now required another 67 runs from the remaining 6 overs. M.Coopers 23 was in vain and his side were soundly beaten by an efficient Thriplow. Reeds R. Barlow bemoaned his teams application 'For large parts of tonight's game we've been outplayed and for a club that has such a good record in this competition it's not acceptable. People came over tonight to support us and we've let them down for the second time in this competition.'

Woodcutters

A welcome return to The Green for Reed’s Sunday Seconds saw a mammoth total amassed by the home side. Having played away for most of the season Reed were happy to have the home advantage again and with just the one game being played they could boast to having one or two first teamers in their ranks. Freddy Stuart was captain for the day, he lost the toss but came away with the result he wanted regardless with Reed being inserted.Despite an early loss, Reed scored quickly. Sean Tidey and Michael Robertson refused to play in anything but top gear with boundaries coming left, right and centre. Tidey’s assault saw him quickly get his half century. Robertson (32) finally fell after shooting one straight up. At that time the score was 85 for 2 from only 7 overs. Freddy Stuart came to the crease and joined in for a time playing to his strengths with some fantastic late cuts. Reed’s captain made 12 before being bowled and making way for Richie Barlow. Meanwhile Tidey was still blasting away in making yet another devastating century. He eventually retired hurt after a spell of cramp with 132 including 12 fours and 9 sixes. Barlow then took charge of Reed’s innings and although the run rate noticeably dropped off in Tidey’s absence the home side continued to score fluently. Barlow, looking classy (61) and Josh Caldecott-Stevens (11) batted well together after drinks. Knocks from Marcus J.E. Baker (24) and Jack Tidey (39*) added to Reed’s mighty total which finished on 338-9.With such a huge total Freddy Stuart had the luxury of rotating the bowling to give everyone a go.
