Dunstable

Reed got back to winning ways with a very convincing win over previously 4th place Dunstable, with a great all round performance on Saturday. James Heslam and Tom Greaves, took the game early to Dunstable with them hitting the bad ball for 4 and but defending the balls with varied bounce.  Greaves hit his first 50 of the season off only 39 balls and in his innings of 55 he hit 11 4s before he was first to go.This bought Reed Vice Captain Chris Jackson in with captain Heslam. Both used their maturity and experience to guide the Dunstable attack to all areas of the very large outfield. Heslam anchored the inning in his 80.    With Reed wanting to get as many runs as possible with the outfield being so quick, meant that wickets were falling from attacking shots rather than good balls. Jackson went for 28 as did Liam McKecknie after a quick fire innings. Tom Fulk (31 not out) and Phil Frenay (10 not out) with a strike rate of 250% saw Reed to an impressive 245-4 in 52 overs.   In reply Dunstable never got going after only have 1 off the first 4 overs, with young Jack Tidey (1-24) and Graham Wilson (3-52) bowling well. Wilson got the first wicket with the Dunstable openers eyes lighting up when he thought he had a run scoring shot before his stumps were spread over Bedfordshire.  This bought in Oxford University cricketer Jon Lodwick, who obviously could bat and with Reed knowing it would be hard to get him out, decided it was best to leave him in as he was more interested in getting a not out than winning the game for [...]

Broxbourne

A rearguard action by skipper Bernie Morss and Lee Johnson saved Reed's First XI from defeat at Broxbourne on Saturday. Electing to bat first on a cool day with rain constantly in the air, Broxbourne lost a wicket to the first ball of the innings as Lee Johnson rearranged, Chris Dawson's stumps. The Home side tentatively set about building a competitive total, despite some good bowling from Reed's Opening attack of Lee Johnson 8-1-36-1 and last week's hero Graham Wilson 13-3-31-0. Skipper Bernie Morss brought himself into the attack and immediately removed Glassberg for 35.The lack of pace on the ball unnerved the Broxbourne batting line up with Morss taking a further three wickets leaving him with 18-3-78-4. Only Bailey with a pugnacious 83 holding Broxbourne together. However, with a little over half an hour to tea, Ferguson and Hodgson added 75 vital runs in just 53 balls to take Broxbourne to 228 for 6 in their allocated overs.Reed were soon in trouble as Liam McKechnie and Chris Jackson were dismissed in successive balls to leave the visitors at 4-2. James Heslam and Tom Greaves set about rebuilding the innings with patence and flair until a contentious lbw decision saw Heslam depart for 25. Greaves tried to take the initiative but soon fell for a gutsy 28, to leave the visitors precariously placed. The home side pressed there advantage and at 82-8 Reed looked as if they had nothing left to give. However, they didn't bank on the two left handers of Lee Johnson and Bernie Morss dropping anchor and saving the game with an unbeaten 31 partnership to save the game, Reed ended on 113-8 and picked up six bonus points in a yo-yo [...]

Foxton

Two strong Reed and Foxton sides met in the 1st Round of the Keatley Cup on a gloriously warm and sunny Wednesday evening.Batting first Foxton got off to a rapid start with “JP” Procasio striking the ball powerfully, well supported by Sanderson. Reed’s opening bowlers Lee Johnson and Will Dobson each went at an average of 8 an over though Reed did spurn a catch and a stumping chance. Sanderson eventually fell bowled by Mitchell Cooper for 30 but Projacio continued his majestic progress. At one time a total in excess of 150 seemed on the cards but Reed gradually got a grip on the game as Cooper took 2 further wickets giving him a return of 4 overs 3-27. Procajio eventually fell for 67 bowled by Lee Johnson in the last of Foxtons 16 overs and the score of 130-5 was very respectable, if not totally daunting.Reeds Dobson fell LBW for 1 in the 2nd over and when Ed Garrott was bowled for 7 in the 3rd Reed were struggling. 2 wickets down for only 10. However surviving Reed opener Liam McKechnie was joined by James Heslam and the Reed innings started to turn around. McKechnie hit a rapid series of boundaries to propel the Reed score forward and with the quality strokeplay of Heslam being seen to good effect Reed were right back in the match. However, McKechnie holed out caught on the long on boundary for 25 and when Tom Greaves came and went next ball for a golden duck Reed were 4 wickets down and seemingly in trouble. It was apparent that the new partnership between Marcus Martin and Heslam would be key to the match result. The pair struck the [...]

Buntingford

On a warm summers evening Reed took on Buntingford in the Keatley Cup Semi-final at Therfield. Buntingford won the toss and elected to bat first. Reed captain Lee Johnson led by example making the early breakthrough by clean bowling Paola for 2. However, despite a good opening few overs by Johnson (3-16) and spinner Will Dobson (3-23), Buntingford got off to a reasonable start largely thanks to the powerful hitting of J Rudder who made a quickfire 27. When Rudder went to a good catch on the long on boundary by Garrott off the bowling of Mitchell Cooper (2-33), Buntingford were in a reasonable position at 41-2 off 6 overs. Key batsman Chambers and A Parkins now looked to build a partnership and this they did without managing to up the run rate as much as they might have liked due to some good Reed bowling. After 10 overs the score had moved onto 68-2. And just when it looked like Chambers (20) was moving into his stride he was caught by Heslam at midwicket off the impressive Kallum Ward (1-17) who always seems to deliver for Reed in this competition. The wicket of Chambers signalled the start of a major collapse for Buntingford. Although Kitscha (15) hit some decent shots and Parkin continued on to make 16, Reed took wickets at regular intervals which kept the rate down so that Buntingford eventually finished on 103-9 after their 16 overs. In reply, Reed lost the early wicket of the inform Tom Greaves caught at mid-off off the bowling of Robertson (1-20) for a duck. However, Ed Garrott and Liam Mcechnie steadied the ship and batted sensibly. Reed were 30-1 after 5 overs. Garrott and Mcechnie [...]

Western Colville Away

Weston Colville won the toss and put Reed into bat. It was a very sunny evening with a quick outfield. Openers Josh Poulton and Cemal Ramadan put on a sterling partnership of 109 when Ramadan was caught out on 46 in the 14th over. Hugh Wrigley took up the reins and with just six overs to go put on 12 runs before being bowled in the 19th over. With just 8 balls to go and 150 runs Reed were looking to push the total. Reed lost one more wicket to finish on 157/3 Josh Poulton carrying his bat for 63 runs. With a good score Reed could not be complacent on this high scoring ground. They needed early wickets which came from Connor Poulton (4-0-18-1) in the 2nd over caught by Hugh Wrigley. Weston then settled with a partnership of 41 before Rhodri Hughes (4-0-33-1) came on in the 7th over to bowl Freddy Gurney for 17 runs. The best of Westons batting came from Edward Fairey (23), but this was cut short by a run out to Reece Fitzgerald in the 10th over. With two more run outs to Rhodri Hughes and Connor Poulton Westons run rate was dropping fast. Jack Caine (3-0-15-0) and Joe Graves (2-0-11-0) contributed good spells at the end of the innings when Weston were looking to hit out. Opening bowler Fitzgerald (4-0-18-2) came back on to take further 2 consecutive wickets in his final over. Weston finally falling short by 29 runs.

Thriplow and Whittlesford

With 10 men and 3 drafted in from U11's Reed were not at their strongest. They lost the toss and had to field first. Whittlesford got a slow but substantial start, openers Sam Woods and Tom Cressy putting on 86, Cressy put on 14 runs in the 15th over but fell in the next to a caught and bowled off Connor Poulton. Ian Curtis had a great game keeping against pacey bowling and took a catch in the 18th over. Woods stuck at it but was bowled in the 20th with a score of 45. Whittlesford finishing on 116 for 4. Good fielding contributions were appreciated by Zac Conley and Owen Hughes from the U11's, best of the bowling came from Connor Poulton 3-0-8-3, Reece Fitzgerald 4-0-17-1, Rhodri Hughes 3-0-12-0. In reply Josh Poulton(C) and Rhodri Hughs opened. They made a good start and by the 10th over had 73 runs on the board, well above the run rate. Reed went onto the 15th over and 105 runs before Hughes(15) lost his wicket to a catch to Oliver Fountain off of Dan Collinson's bowling. With only 12 runs required Reed lost another quick wicket. Reece Fitzgerald (2 no) came in no 4 to finish off the innings with Josh Poulton who carried his bat for 86 (inc 16 4's). Reed's final score 118 for 2 of 16.1 overs.

Sawston Away

Reed won the toss and chose to bat. They got off to a steady start and runs were coming easily to the opening batsman Captain Josh Poulton and Rhodri Hughes (12), with a quick outfield Reed were getting boundaries. Sawston finally made inroads in the 14th over when the Reed Captain was caught at mid on by John Curran but not before he had made 53 runs from 45 balls. Two more quick wickets fell, John Curran showing the best of Sawston's bowling 4-0-13-3. Reed were still short of a decent total to bowl at but cameo performances from Jesse Chappell 11 from 6 balls and Reece Fitzgerald 13 not out finally left Reed with a total of 118 for 5. Reece Fitzgerald opened the bowling for Reed, economy was the word for the first few overs keeping Sawston below the run rate. Reece finishing his spell 4-0-13-1. After the wicket of the S Ankers fell it was up to S Baig(30) to pick up the run rate for Sawston. This he did with help from wides scoring highly off the Reed bowlers. Baig kept the pressure on but to no avail loosing his wicket when the Reed Captain got a direct hit on the stumps to run him out. Sawston were definitely up with the run rate J Curran and A Stern both getting into double figures, but then falling foul of the safe hands of the Reed fielders. More wickets fell for little runs, the best of the fielding coming from Sam Rice and Tudor Holt preventing significant boundaries and catches from Jesse Chappell (2), Jack Caine (2) Rhodri Hughes (1) and another direct hit for a final run out on the last [...]

Saffron Waldon B Away

Saffron Walden won the toss and chose to bat. It was a poor wicket and the ball was keeping low. It was a hard wicket to bat on but lent itself to the bowlers. Reed took advantage of this and by the 4th over 3 wickets had fallen to the opening bowlers Dan Howard 4-0-26-2 and Connor Poulton 3-1-11-2. The following batsman could not get a start and by the 14th over Walden were 41 for 9. Wickets falling to Reece Fitzgerald 4-0-7-1, Rhodri Hughes 2-0-2-2 and Shai Cookson-Swan 3-0-6-1. Catches went to Fitzgerald, Hughes and Cookson-Swan, 2 run outs to Connor Poulton and a stumping to Ian Curtis. Walden's final partnership put on 31 runs and they batted out the last 6 overs for a final total of 72. Walden's top scorer Sean Colliety 11 no. Reed went into bat but were cautious of the predictably low keeping wicket. The opening batsman made a start but Fitzgerald was caught in the 4th over with a score of 2. Connor Poulton then took up the reins with Rhodri Hughes, a partnership of 55 took them up to the 11th over when Hughes fell to a cruel run. Poulton hit the ball straight back to Hughes' stumps, backing up well out of his crease, the bowler got a hand to the ball and Hughes was gone for 7. Poulton had been hitting regular boundaries and Reed only needed 3 runs to win when Jack Caine came in to bat. Saffron Walden's Charlie Passfield then bowled a maiden over. Reed where not taking any chances. In the 12th over with Connor Poulton's best score 40no inc 6 4's, Reed wrapped up the game with a final total [...]

Linton

This was a must win game for Reed to ensure they took the League title. Linton won the toss and with rain in the air they put Reed into bat. With a recent century under his belt, Josh Poulton was on form and opened the batting with Cemal Ramadan. With a short boundary on the pavilion side there was always runs to be had at the Linton Ground. Steady runs came from the first few overs. 17 runs off the 4th over but then Cemal Ramadan fell in the 5th for 14 bowled by Connor Campbell. Hugh Wrigley took up the crease and made a 76 partnership with his Captain, a short break for rain then Wrigley's reign came to an end caught by Burleigh in the 13th over with a score of 31.
