After loosing narrowly to Royston in the first cup game last season Reed were looking to redress the balance. After winning the toss and electing to bat on a good wicket Reed made a good start with openers J Poulton (cpt) and R Hughes putting on 49 runs. With a run out and the captain retiring on 32 the next order batsman also put in good contributions including I Curtis 14. Two more wickets went down to E Goldman and J Norcross respectively,but with extras contributing highly Reed finished on 115 for 3.
Reed started well in the field taking 4 wickets in the first 7 overs, 1 run out and debut opening bowler 11 year old C Poulton taking 3 wickets for 18 runs. Royston started to pull back with an excellent middle order bat of 31 from L George. With no more wickets falling Reed managed to keep the runs down with good bowling performances from R Hughes 3 overs for 9 runs, and D Howard 3 overs for 7 runs. Reed finally taking the game by 17 runs.
