Reed easily won in the 1st round of the National Village Cup against local team Shepreth. Reed amasssed the huge total of 279 in only 40 overs. Reed got off to another solid start with James Heslam and Roger Bowcock putting on 50 for the first wicket. However the loss of Bowcock bought Heslam and Jackson back together and the results were very similar to Saturday. With Heslam continuing his good form in scoring 40 before being stumped dancing down the wicket to leggy Phil Skinner and Jackson batting well b4 being caught for 42. However Reeds highest scorer was James’ dad and 2nd team captain, John “one shot” Heslam. Heslam Snr scored 68 which included a 131 runs partnership with Jackson. Despite Andy Goodship “Lollipop” getting a duck, Reed managed a super total with Pete Costen chipping in with an entertaining 39. In reply Shepreth never got out of the traps, with Will Clarke pace and Neil Haslams tight swing bowling runs were never going to be easy. With wickets shared between Clarke, Haslam, Heslam, Costen and Clive Collins Reed finished off Shepreth for 120 in 30 overs to give Reed a tricky clash against Knebworth Park in the second round. Sorry Shepreth stole the book and I do not have any figures from their innings!!!!!!!!!!!! |
