Reed lost away at a strong Ampthill side in the Herts League Div 2 on Saturday. After winning the toss and deciding to bowl it seemed a poor decision from captain Simon Jackson after the home side raced to 61 off 14 overs before Michael Berks got the needed break through.

Throughout the Ampthill innings Reed found it hard to break partnerships and despite good bowling from Berks (4-61), Chris Jackson (2-31) and Andrew Emms (2-34) Ampthill managed to amass 256-9.

In reply Baz Curtis and James Heslam got off to a solid start however with runs hard to come by due to the excellant Ampthill attack, poor light and the now damper outfield Reed very always going to struggle to beat the 1st innings total. However the increasingly swinging and seaming ball saw off the two openers and Chris Jackson top scored with 24 before Reed were struggling at 53 for 4.

The introduction of Ampthills self proclaimed “Freddie” Fordie who took 6-10 in 5 overs saw off Reeds tail with the last 5 Reed batsman failing to trouble the scorer as Reed were bowled out for 65. Reed captain Simon Jackson was “disappointed with his sides performance however we appreciated that Ampthill are a strong side and they probably had the best of the conditions”.
